Waterfall to Wollongong Cable Replacement Stage 1, 2 & 3

Client – Sydney Trains

The Global Network Solutions Team successfully completed the 32 km installation of 288-core fibre and 45 km of 30 pair copper cable between the Waterfall Communications Room and the Thirroul Communications Room within the existing and new cable route consisting of GST, GLT and underground pipe. In addition to the cable installation, The Global Network Solutions Team installed 9 x Under Line Crossings (ULX) and multiple installations of GST, GLT and Pit and Pipe communications routes.

Given the fact that the majority of Rail Corridor between Waterfall and Thirroul runs through the National Park, Global Network Solutions developed an Environmental Management Plan to ensure absolute minimal impact on the sensitive area. Together with the GNS Safety Management Plans this project was completed with zero impact on the environment and zero incidents relating to OH&S and Rail safety.

 
  • Supply and Installation of 32 km of 288c Fibre Optic Cable between Waterfall and Thirroul through the Rail Corridor
  • Supply and Installation of 45 km 30 Pair 0.9mm Copper Communications Cable between Waterfall and Thirroul through the Rail Corridor, breaking out to over 60 Signal Loc’s through the Rail Corridor
  • Installation and termination of 60 Stainless Steel MDF Cabinets
  • Design and Installation of more than 6 k of Galvanised Steel Troughing (GST)
  • Design and Installation of a Combined Services Route (Signal and Communications) between the existing CSR and the Signal Loc’s at over 60 locations.
  • Supply and Installation of 75 concrete pits
  • Installation of multiple trenched pipe route.
  • Design and installation of cable route through Rail Tunnels
  • Design, construct and survey of 9 Under Line Crossings (ULX)

Penrith to Mt Victoria Fibre Optic Cable Installation Stage 1 & 2

Client – Sydney Trains

The GNS Team completed the 70km installation of 144-core fibre cable between the Penrith Communications Room and the Mt Victoria Communications Room within the existing cable route consisting of GST, GLT and underground pipe.

Working in a very environmental sensitive area, the GNS team hauled 17 x 4km drums of cable as per the Sydney Trains design between the Communications Rooms along the Rail Corridor between Penrith and Mt Victoria in the Blue Mountains.

Central Coast Broadband Installation

Client – Telstra

Global Network Solutions were contracted to install 34km of fibre optic (144 core and 36 core) between the Hawksbury River Communications room and the Woy Woy communications Room with break outs to multiple new base station along the rail corridor. The remote location and limited access to the rail corridor meant that work could only be done during full weekend rail possessions, of which there are only 4 per year.

The Logistics of the project involved:

  • The use of a River Barge to transport Plant and Machinery to the various sites.
  • Water Taxi to transport the GNS staff and Protection Officers.
  • Hi Rail vehicles to load and unload materials and machinery.
  • Working around the clock with 2 x cable haul teams to install the fibre cables through the 2 km Woy Woy Rail Tunnel.

Central Coast Broadband Installation

Client – UGL

Global Network Solutions successfully completed:

  • 4 km installation of Galvanised Steel Trophing Route (GST) within the rail Corridor between Hawkesbury River and Woy Woy.
  • Construction of 3 x Double Line ULX installations. Design and Construct
  • Construction of 3 x Transmission Tower Site (Civil, Communications and Electrical)
  • Installation of over 11km of power supply cabling

  • Removal of the existing Signal, Communications and Power cables for the redevelopment of the Castlereagh Rd Rail Bridge
  • Re installation of new and existing Signal, Communications and Power cables through existing and new coble route on completion of the Castlereagh Rd Rail Bridge

Sydney Central Metro Enabling Works

Client – Sydney Trains

  • Installation of 300m of Stainless Steel Cable Tray
  • Installation of 200m of Galvanised Steel Trophing (GST)
  • Supply and Installation of 6km of 144c Fibre Optic Cable for service relocation to enable the Construction Works of the Sydney Metro at Central station
